Established in 1888, Town Shop has been one of the most famous lingerie stores in New York City. That being said, I was a little confused when I got an email from them inviting me to visit the store.
Little did I know that they also carry a wide selection of ‘luxury’ men’s underwear… Last September, when they moved into the new building (twice as big as the old one), owner Danny Koch had a vision: create an area where men could relax and hang out while their girlfriends or wives shop for a bra.
“I’m a guy that owns a bra store, he says… However, I also want men to feel welcome in the store and I want to give them the opportunity to acquire a great quality product just as their ladies”
The “men’s lounge” is fully equipped with a flat-screen TV broadcasting current sport games, a sitting area and renowned brands like Derek Rose, SAXX, Calida, Hanro, among others decorate the shelves. – I’m not a big sports fanatic, but I’m a total underwear aficionado, so they obviously got my attention!
After having a closer look at the styles on display, I was able to take home 3 of my favorite items. I’m hands down a briefs guy so of course I chose a couple of briefs and a pair of boxers, for a change.
My first choice the Derek Rose Jack I Brief; made out of pima cotton stretch feels great on your body and allows your skin to breathe, perfect to make a good first impression, if you know what I mean. 😉
I’ve never heard of Swedish brand Calida before so, I decided to pick the Calida Evolution Mid-Brief; made out of 94% pima cotton it’s resistant and strong, ideal for the day to day routine, plus I love the vintage feel of it – Due to the cut of this model, this one will look better if you have bigger ass-ets, just saying.
Finally, I rarely wear boxers but I was very curious to try the SAXX Fiesta Boxers, they come with their patent internal mesh panels for the ultimate support for ‘your boys’. This unique pouch keeps everything in place avoiding unnecessary friction or movement. Singularly comfortable I must say. I recommend wearing it to the gym or for any physical activity. – Be careful with the sizing, you might want to downsize. I normally wear small size and this one felt a bit loose.
Over the past few years I’ve seen a lot of guys spending more money on underwear – Thank you Jesus! And sure, there are plenty of places to buy fashion forward skivvies in New York City; however, it’s also good to know that men have the option to stop by Town Shop and purchase elegant and sophisticated underwear, loungewear and even socks.
