Move over Kanye West because there’s another musician entering the world of fashion, the talented and multifaceted John Legend. The “All of me” singer just collaborated with AXE, American menswear designer Billy Reid and Esquire Fashion Director Nick Sullivan to create Axe White Label Collective.
After a nationwide search for the brightest emerging talent, five designers were handpicked for this hands-on mentorship experience. On Thursday, September 10th, we got the first look at their debut collections at an event hosted by AXE White Label and Esquire magazine during New York Fashion Week.
The lucky designers Ryan Barr, Savannah Yarborough, Afriyie Poku and my two personal favorites Stan Cheung and Kristopher Haigh showcased their work in a room full of fashion editors and menswear enthusiasts.
It was great to finally see Kris Haigh’s 1K hats. I’ve been stalking him on Tumblr – even before he started this project – and his personal style, aesthetically geometric, monochromatic and minimal is reflected in each piece. What I like about EYSOM by Stanley Cheung is the versatility of his clothes… Yeah, it’s work out gear but so stylish that you can wear outside the gym.
I won’t say much, other than stay tuned because I’m working my magic to collaborate with these two incredible designers.
