A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to relax and enjoy magnificent mountain views from Bear and Butterfly, a charming men-only bed and breakfast that sits atop of historical Morgan Hill in Western North Carolina. – I’m not the one for outdoor experiences, yet I was blown away by the whole weekend getaway.

When I think about this type of excursion, tents, mosquitos and peeing behind the bushes come to my mind – sorry for the graphic mental picture. However, that’s not what you will encounter at Bear and Butterfly.

On the contrary, the 6000 square foot timber-framed cabin is equipped with everything you need: full-scale gym, large hot tub, outdoor claw foot tub and shower, movie theater, 24-hour coffee and snacks among other amenities such as 23 acres of land for you to hang around au naturel. #sunsoutbunsout

Additionally, the four bedrooms are truly unique. For one thing, on the second floor, the suites feature vaulted ceilings, but all are individually decorated with art made out of real butterflies and antiques. They also come with their on private bathroom and walk-in closet. And let’s not forget about the cute teddy bear, ready to snuggle up with you at night.

Your stay includes daily gourmet breakfast. And when they say gourmet, they mean it. Their signature blueberry vanilla stuffed French toast is made with locally sourced cheeses, bread, dairy and meats from Hickory Nut Gap Farms. However, the upscale service doesn’t end there. Specialty items such as chocolates and champagne are available upon request, onsite dinner too. Trust me when I tell you that after you try Shane’s cooking, you will want more than just your morning meal.

Another great feature of the clothing-optional resort is its proximity to hiking trails and waterfalls. It took us over 30 minutes to get to Pisgah National Forest where we hiked and enjoyed the beauty of Skinny Dip Falls.

I wasn’t mad at the fact that I could just step out of my room completely naked, but when it comes to sunbathing, tanning lines are a requirement for me. Therefore, I didn’t do much of that.

Nevertheless, I felt like I could hang out any way I wanted. And ultimately, that’s what Sam and Shane set out to create at Bear and Butterfly, a safe place where gay men can relax and enjoy themselves without judgment.
