Parke & Ronen SS16 Collection was inspired by Pan American Eastern airlines. The designers took their cue from patterns found in flight lounges for their swimsuit and casual sportswear collection.
With hippie music in the background, the show was a celebration of the Seventies. Suede, fringe & paisley patterns were seen in trunks, shirts, and even lounge pants.
If you ask me, the best part of the show was the scene backstage. A ton of male models lounging around wearing tight boxers leaving nothing to the imagination, swimwear briefs on racks and finding out more about the collection.
Here, check out my interview with Parke Lutter and Ronen Jehezkel.
What images, people or things inspired the collection? Parke: The movie “Hair”, Joe Dallesandro, the youth movement, conscientious objector and age of Aquarius.
What’s the biggest challenge designing swimwear? Parke: When you’re designing swimwear is a pretty small canvas you have to work with so every little detail matters.
Parke & Ronen is very popular among gay guys do you specifically create for them? Parke: I wouldn’t say so. We design for guys who like to show off their good life, and their elevated sense of style. If they happen to be gay, we are cool with that. We also have a lot of straight customers, who are not afraid of taking chances.
What’s the key to finding the correct swimwear for your type of body? Parke: Fit, it doesn’t’ matter what the color or the pattern. Then decide what kind of waistband do you want: elastic, semi-tailor. Finally length and leg opening.
Ronen: It’s all about the leg opening, that’s why we provide alterations. – I didn’t know that; I’ll keep that in mind.
Do you have any advice for people who want to design? Are there any pointers for getting into the swimwear world? Ronen: I invented this business, all you can do is follow my lead! *wink, wink* – Oh Ronen, aren’t you funny!
What’s next for Parke & Ronen? What can we expect in the future?Parke: We are launching our underwear line in the fall. Everyone thinks we are underwear designers it’s about time we live up to. You are definitely coming, right? – Absolutely. I wouldn’t miss it.
Ronen: You’re the first one I’m telling this… I want launch it during the winter shows; we are going to call it the Après Ski Collection. It is going to be a full line composed by two silhouettes made out of Pima cotton. Very sexy featuring our distinctive fit.
You read it here first! Stay tuned for the launch of Parke & Ronen underwear. Don’t count with jockstraps thought, in Ronen’s words “we do fashion, we don’t do pornography.”
