When people hear me talking about living part-time in Dallas, their frown on their faces shows me how unaware they are about how fast-growing, lively and cosmopolitan the city is. Some statistics reveal that approximately 200 people per day are moving into the DFW area. 200, that’s a crazy number!
However, that doesn’t surprise me. In Texas, jobs are a dime a dozen; residents get to live a high-quality life yet still have money to travel and play. Dallas food, art, and nightlife scenes are diverse and energetic. Most importantly; the city has one of the largest gay populations in the U.S., and the BIGGEST in Texas. – Mmm, who says size doesn’t matter? Believe or not, Dallas’s Oak Lawn was voted the number one gayborhood by Out Traveler in 2014.
“The Strip” as locals call it, stretches through Cedar Springs Road, with an array of gay bars, shops, and restaurants. The Round-Up Saloon is where you can watch cowboys showing off their two-steps skills, and J. R’s second-floor patio is the most coveted spot to watch the pride parade, which takes place on Sunday, September 17.
Aside from the parade, Dallas Pride is a month-long celebration of the gay community. So grab your rainbow flag, and glitter stick. Here is my guide to five pride events you shouldn’t miss this year.

BEAT, feat. DJ Tony Moran

BRUT, Dallas Pride
I couldn’t be more excited about BRUT coming to Dallas. What better way to end pride weekend than getting a little naughty with the men of BRUT. Straight from New York, DJ Dan Darlington, co-creator and friend of mine, will bring underground beats to the heart of Texas. Do wear a jockstrap, a harness or any leather gear but check your Dallitude at the door. TICKETS HERE
