Before you sip on your Margarita, you should know that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day (that would be September 16). The holiday is in honor of the Battle of Puebla and marks the Mexican victory over the French. – A little history lesson never hurt anyone.
Contrary to popular belief, WE Mexicans do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo (at least not in Mexico) of course speeches are made, but that’s about it. However, as a TRUE Mexican I will take any excuse to celebrate. – So drink up putos!
Now that we have set the record straight, it’s time to party like a real Mexican. That means NO margaritas, instead go for a Corona (the best selling beer in Mexico) or a michelada – a spicy “cocktail” made with beer – Oh! And forget about Luis Miguel, that’s so 1991.
This playlist consists of 50 essential songs EVERY Mexican plays during a “peda” (Mexican slang for a night out drinking). From classics like “No Rompas Mi Corazon – Caballo Dorado” to current stuff like my favorite song #NOT “El Taxi –Osmani Garcia”. By the way, did you noticed half of the songs are drink names or talk about drinking? SALUD!
