Palm Springs has been a gay and lesbian paradise for decades. Today, with 30 gay guesthouses in the area, this desert city is a prime destination for the LGBT traveler. Whether you’re looking for clothing optional or all nude resort, Palm Springs has it all.
When I visited Palm Springs for the first time last year, I fell in love with it right away. And how could I not – apart from being there with my handsome date, the weather is delightfully warm, there are countless dining options, and the views are incredible.
On my most recent trip to California, I knew I needed to visit Palm Springs again. So I convinced my friend to go with me. We drove about two hours from rainy LA to sunny Palm Springs, where we stayed at Santiago Resort: a private, swimsuit-optional getaway for gay men, minutes away from downtown.
As soon as we walked through the gate, we felt like we stepped into our own little gay oasis. We were welcomed by a couple of the attentive staff. Even though our room wasn’t ready, they was very accommodating. We were directed to the central courtyard, where we were able to admire the best view of the San Jacinto Mountains and enjoyed the big, warm pool.
One might think this is a brand-new property because the premises are IMMACULATE, but in fact, it has been here for 20 years. However, it did recently go under renovation by the new owners, and you can tell they did a terrific job. The whole place has this Spanish colonial revival flare – especially the outdoor area, with a Mexican touch in the rooms. Which by the way, are beautifully done: simple yet comfortable.
Your stay at Santiago Resort includes continental breakfast and lunch. There’s a 24 Hr. “Cantina” with an array of complimentary snacks and beverages. But no alcohol, sorry! Not a big deal, since you can BYOB. Visitors come in a wide variety of ages and are super friendly. The best way to get to know them is, sitting by the fire pit or jumping in the hot tub – Naked, of course!

Speaking about that, the vibe here is so laid back and relaxing. Guests usually sunbathe with their swimsuits by the pool – which I also do because I love me some tan lines. If you’re looking for a private and charming place to unwind, Santiago Resort is your best choice.
I want to give special thanks to John-Michael Cooper, General Manager for hosting me during my Palm Springs getaway. I had an incredible time staying at Santiago Resort, and I can’t wait to come back again.
