It’s Pride Month, and things are feeling slightly off this year. With all the crazy anti-trans legislation hitting the books and an uptick in hate crimes against the queer community, it’s more important than ever to be proud of who you are and let those bigots know they can’t bring us down.
I’ve always been an out-and-proud kind of person, and you bet I’ll keep being true to myself and using this platform as a way of activism. We’ve come a long way since Stonewall, but there’s still way too much work to do. Trans women of color are being murdered at ridiculously high rates, conversion therapy is still a thing, and…have you watched the news lately?
As a queer immigrant in the U.S., even I couldn’t have imagined some of the hateful rhetoric we are hearing from politicians, extremists, and fake religious folks. But none of that can stop us because if we have learned anything, it is that Pride represents the power of joy and resilience.
We’ve been through so much crap, but we’ve also made amazing contributions to the world, and we are not done yet. Take me, for instance – I’ve spent over a decade building a career as an influential LGBTQ content creator who brands love to work with because of my creative spark, killer communication skills, lightning-fast turnaround times, and amazing management style. But the best part? Being an advocate for my community. That’s what Pride is all about – that sense of community that it brings.
Pride gives us a chance to connect with others who truly get us. We need that sense of belonging to thrive, and I hope I can continue to provide a space in this blog where you can find that.
So this year, let’s make some noise, show off your Pride, be queer AF, support small queer businesses and queer adult content creators, and while you’re at it, get yourself a domain name that represents who you are.
